Frederick's Ghost Tour

As October's chill reminds DC area residents that autumn has arrived, so do the Fall Festivities in DC's western suburbs.

Frederick's Ghost Tour has stories to tell.

About a half hour north of Leesburg VA lies the best Old Town in the DC area.

Now fully gentrified yet not overcrowded like Old Town Alexandria, Frederick MD has numerous restaurants and shops in a very large Old Town area.

As the hospital for the Antieum and Gettysburg civil war battles, Frederick saw some 8000 wounded soldiers die in its makeshift hospitals.

The US Civil War Medicine Museum has artifacts and stories of the often grusome medical treatment available at that time.

As the legal center covering a large area surrounding Frederick, the town's jail and court system metted out gruesome punishments including "Quartering" where all 4 limbs of a convict were tied to mules aimed in 4 different directions.

The mules were then whipped and the execution was performed.

Ghost Stories

As Frederick has such a history, no wonder it is a draw for ghost loving and Halloween fans.

One of the most popular ghost tours around DC is
Frederick's Ghost Tours.

Night trippers are guided on a candlelight walking tour throughout the old town.

A docent relates true stories of former residents interwoven with stories of the unusual.

The tour gives a brief overview of Frederick's history while exciting the Halloween crowds.
Friendly pets are also welcome to tour.

Fans of the TV reality show "Top Chef-Las Vegas" may want to try out "The VOLT" restaurant who's propriator is heading towards the finals as a contestant.

The Volt didn't have a waiting line the night we were there yet that may not be the case if chef Bryan Voltaggio wins the top rated TV show's latest contest.

"What's a win for you?"
