A typical suburban strip center with large parking lots, Cascades Town Center serves as the commercial core of North Sterling. The complex also contains 2 blocks of a "main street" style design with cafe/casual restaurants making this area popular to take a break.
The Sterling Public Library, the Loudoun Senior Center and a very busy US Post Office are also near the shopping center.
Potomac Falls VA
The US Post Office designates Cascades and neighboring Countryside as "Potomac Falls VA, 20165", a name that is gathering cachet.
NE of Cascades, the wealthy golf course community of Lowe's Island also uses the Potomac Falls moniker along with several developments using the "Great Falls" name belonging to wealthy Great Falls VA in Fairfax County.
Most references to the area including the National Weather Service, are to Sterling VA which covers regional temperatures for the DC area from Dulles Airport.
Education, Recreation
The area high school is Potomac Falls HS. Loudoun County Public Schools frequently rezone neighborhoods to account for growth in student population.
Rezonings have become fewer as Sterling has become built out and have shifted more to the Ashburn area.
Still, potential residents should confirm with the school board website regarding specific addresses.
The Loudoun County location of Northern Virginia Community College lies at the eastern edge of the community. Numerous small branches of colleges call this area of Sterling home including George Mason University, Old Dominion University and various trade schools.
Cascades residents enjoy the large Algonkian Park which fronts a relatively calm, lake-like part of the Potomac River and hosts the only boat ramp on the Virginia side of the river in Fairfax or Loudoun Counties.
River rapids begin immediately downstream to Great Falls but upstream offers relatively placid waters to beyond Leesburg and White's Ferry.
Jet skies, kayaks and canoes jostle for the launch during the summer months, but all watercraft find plenty of room once in the water.
Algonkian Park contains a public golf course and a large play area which hosts various water-park activities during the summer. Additionally, the park has cottages available for rent for short term housing.
21st Century
In use office complexes planned along the Route 7 corridor in North Ashburn VA will lead to upward home price pressures.
Cascades anchors the northern Dulles area's residential corridor with numerous jogging paths, mature landscaping amidst a hilly landscape.
The location has developed into a car based mixed use area full of homes, schools, colleges, office parks, shopping centers and major roadways connecting Cascades to international locations via Dulles Airport and regionally to Washington DC employment centers via 15-30 minute commutes.
These attributes continue to attract home buyers relocating to work in Tysons (McLean/Vienna), Reston, Herndon, Dulles or Sterling itself.
